Lays Oven Baked Barbecue

Thursday, 17 June 2010 05:41 by nico
One year ago we reviewed the Pringles Texas BBQ Sauce and Kettle Honey Barbecue chips and today we’ve found the brand new Lays Oven Baked Barbecue flavour ! The “Oven Baked” range of chips are known for their low amount of fat, which is of course healthier, so you can eat more of them (and without having greasy fingers !) The inside of the package reveals a smokey smell of paprika which makes us think to a barbecue in the garden during a sunny day They also taste like paprika chips, but again with a distinctive smokey flavour… in short, a very good choice for the aperitif ! Can be found in Belgian supermarkets 150g per pack Ingredients: potato flakes, starch, sunflower oil, BBQ flavour [sugar, rusk (from wheat), flavour enhancer (monosodium glutamate), dextrose, flavouring (contains wheat, barley, milk and lactose), paprika powder, onion powder, tomato powder, garlic powder, parsley, acidity regulator (citric acid, malic acid), colour (paprika extract), smoke flavouring], sugar, emulsifier (soy lecithin), dextrose, salt. Pringles Texas BBQ Sauce vs Kettle Honey Barbecue

Wednesday, 13 May 2009 07:33 by nico
Hey, it’s been a long time since we last posted ! We’ve been searching barbecue sauce everywhere, and so in chips. Let’s begin with the Pringles “Texas BBQ Sauce” flavour. Frankly, there’s not much to tell about these, the brown/red powder covering the thin and cripsy chips is the main feature but it tastes too much like the paprika ones without the spicy kick… they’re not really tasting barbecue sauce. So if you expect a delicious smokey taste, forget it ! But Marie still like them, so maybe I’m a little bit too harsh The opponent is far more interesting, Kettle is a british company producing hand cooked chips, with natural ingredients, without artificial flavours nor colours. That sounds sweet ! And their Honey Barbecue Chips taste reaaaallly good. The shape, the colour and the seasoning of each chips is different from the last, which really accentuates the “hand made” spirit, in the opposite of Pringles. They smell and taste like potatoe, they are very thick (as the foil bag) and almost hard to eat. The flavouring is sweet and even if it’s not too barbecued, it’s still a pleasure to eat. They’re not that fat but leave an unpleasant greasy feeling on the fingers. If you know any other barbecue flavoured chips we should try, taste and review, go ahead ! For the info, we've been cooking our very first homemade barbecue sauce and it's looking quite promising, so we’ll talk about it in a later post. And if you want to support the blog, be our cheerleaders at the 10Km of Uccle this sunday, Marie and I and a few mates will be running under the barbecuesauce.be flag !
